Mission Statement

The mission of Sprout Montessori is to provide a safe, creative, and stimulating environment while fostering a developmentally appropriate and fun-loving space for infants, toddlers, and preschool children.

We follow the philosophy and methodology of Maria Montessori and believe each child is unique in their learning. Our prepared learning facility provides opportunities for each and every child to learn at their own pace, encouraging them to discover their inner curiosity, and allowing them to develop into creative thinkers and lifelong learners.

“The child has a mind able to absorb knowledge.  He has the power to teach himself.”

About Me

My name is Najma Shah and my journey as a Montessori educator began in 2000. Prior to this, I received a Bachelors in Education, and a Montessori degree from the American Montessori Society. I have over 20 years of experience working in the field of early childhood education, as a teacher, mentor, supervisor, and instructor.

My work with early childhood education has taken me across the globe, and in 2015 I got the opportunity to work as the director of the non-profit Nursery School in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania. This experience allowed me to grow as an educator and leader by giving me a stronger sense of multicultural understanding and reinforcing my pluralistic values.

In recent years, I have been volunteering my time by working with a variety of early childhood education centers across the Northeast region and developing curricula for these programs, which deal primarily with the children age birth to six years of age.

I believe that each child is born with a unique talent, and as a facilitator, it is my role to guide and unfold that talent, while fostering an environment filled with peace and compassion.
